Two Moons in the Skies of the Country
Download ArticleThe AlOjeiri Scientific Center confirmed that "an asteroid resembling a moon has entered Earth's orbit to accompany the original moon for a duration of up to two months." At the same time, it noted that "this strange astronomical phenomenon can be observed in the skies of Kuwait using large and giant telescopes."
In a statement specifically for Al-Rai, the center explained that "this asteroid is part of an asteroid belt composed of a group of space rocks in the solar system that orbit the sun." It pointed out that "the small moon is called (2024 PT5) and will be within the influence of Earth's gravity for a temporary period, making it a companion to Earth's moon."
The center indicated that "these bodies do not orbit Earth forever, but only for a short time," adding that "this asteroid was first discovered in August of last year and is expected to reappear in thirty years."
It noted that "the small moon will orbit Earth for less than two months and then return to its position, resulting in the temporary presence of two moons for Earth." It emphasized that "the second moon will not have any effect on the movement of Earth and the planets."
